The Pistons Beat The Pacers For Their 7th Straight Win

The Pistons beat The Pacers Friday night 114-101, for their seventh straight win. Rip Hamilton was phenomenal with 23 points, 9 assists and 4 steals. So was Jarvis Hayes who despite suffering from food poisoning scored 13 points in 12 minutes. Chauncey Billups had 14 points and 6 assists. Tayshaun Prince had 13 points. Rookie Rodney Stuckey had 14 points and Rookie Aaron Afflalo had 8.

Walter Herrmann made his debut for the first time as a Piston, and I liked what I saw. I love his quickness and ability to not just get to the basket, but to finish once he gets there. That was one nice circus shot he made in the fourth quarter.

4 Reasons why The Pistons Should Win The Championship This Season

Here are 4 reasons why The Pistons should win the Championship this season:

1. Rest

Since The Pistons are attacking and blowing out opponents much early in games this season, it is almost the norm for the starters to rest on the bench during the 4th quarter. That means they should be well rested come play-off time.

2. A Productive Bench

The Pistons second unit is averaging 26.8 points per game. The last time the Pistons got that type of production from the bench was during the 2003-2004 season. For those who don't know, that's the year they won the Championship.

3. Improved Offense

This season The Pistons are averaging 100 points per game. The last time they averaged those many points, was during the Grant Hill era.

4. Suffocating Defense

This season The Pistons are holding opponents below 90 points, which is a plus when they have to play against high scoring teams.

The Pistons Rip The Nets

The Pistons won against the Nets Wednesday night 101-83, for their sixth straight win. Richard Hamilton scored 22. Chauncey Billups finished with 17 points and 10 assists. Antonio McDyess had 15 points and nine rebounds. Rookie Rodney Stuckey had seven points and three assists and Jason Maxiell scored 10.

The Pistons have really been successful at shutting down the stars in this league. For instance, Jason Kidd only had two points in the game against the Pistons Wednesday night. In the game against the Rockets Yao Ming only had 4 points against The Pistons, and in the game against the Warriors, Baron Davis only scored 2 points. So Jason Kidd, Yao Ming and Baron Davis, only combine for 8 points in the last three games against the Pistons this season. Wow! Now if they can only find a way to limit Lebron James...They'll figure something out.

Cheikh Samb D-League Highlights

Here's highlights from Cheikh Samb. Speaking of Cheikh, I read that he got two of his teeth broken at the root, while playing in the D-league. Yikes! He came back home to get some dental work done and went back to the D-League.

Antonio McDyess And The Pistons Hold Yao Ming 4-13

Antonio McDyess is playing great as a starter this season. In the game against the Rockets Sunday night, he had 12 points and 11 rebounds his fourth double-double of the season. He has 6 altogether so far. He also had 3 steals and helped hold Yao Ming 4-13. Rasheed Wallace also did a great job defending Yao Ming. First he blocked his shot, then he pulled the chair from under him Rick Mahorn style. He had a double-doulbe as well; 14 points and 10 rebounds. Rip Hamilton had 16 points and 7 assists, Chauncey Billups - 9 points and 5 assists. Tayshaun Prince - 13 points. Jason Maxiell had 14. Jarvis Hayes had 9 points and 4 rebounds and Primo brezec had 6 points. The Pistons won 94-82, their 5th straight win of the season.

Block Of The Night:

Young Amir Johnson blocked Dikembe Mutombo's shot from behind. Mutombo got mad and picked up a foul.

The Pistons Go Wild Against The Grizzlies

The Pistons got off to a slow start against the Grizzlies Friday night. In fact, both teams shot poorly in the first quarter. The Grizzlies shot 32%, while the Pistons shot 36%.

The Pistons still managed to lead by 9 in the first, but the Grizzlies cut their lead down to 3. The Pistons led 18-21 going into the second, but the Grizzlies had a 15-2 run and was up by 4 at half-time. The Grizzlies led 42-38.

It seemed like it was going to be a long disastrous night, until the Pistons came out of the Locker Room blazing in the second half. They were dunking, blocking, getting steals and rebounding like crazy.

They had a 14 point lead at the end of the third quarter. They led 54-68. In the fourth quarter the Pistons lead just kept growing, as their suffocating defense got better and better. Yes, The Grizzlies were minced meat by then.

Rookie Aaron Afflalo was a defensive monster. He was attacking at all angles, driving to the basket, drawing fouls, getting steals, you name it. He finished with a career high 12 points, 5 rebounds and a steal.

Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton had points each. Tayshaun Prince had 16.

Now for some interesting stats. The Pistons had a carrer high 16 steals. They also had 5 blocked shots, led by as many as 24 in the fourth, and beat the Grizzlies 94-67.

Rodney Stuckey finally made his debut this season after being out with a broken hand. He entered the game in the fourth quarter, grabbed a rebound and scored immediately. Primoz Brezec also got a chance to play, as did Amir johnson.

Next opponent, The Houston Rockets, Sunday night at 6:00 on FSN.

McDyess, Garnett not quite best friends

Detroit News

BOSTON -- Antonio McDyess and Kevin Garnett share a best friend (Chauncey Billups), an agent (Andy Miller) and a shoe deal (adidas). What they don't share is a warm and fuzzy friendship.

"I mean, we're cool," McDyess said before the Pistons' shoot-around Wednesday morning. "But it's not like we call each other all the time and stuff like that."

You might recall last January when the two balled their fists, cocked their arms and nearly came to blows in a game in Minnesota.

"I wanted to hit him," McDyess recalled, "but I didn't want to pay all those fines."

McDyess had gotten into a tussle with Timberwolves Mark Madsen and threw him to the floor. Garnett stepped in to defend his teammate.

The two were separated before any punches were actually thrown, though Garnett did throw the ball at McDyess.

Both were ejected and the Pistons won the game in double overtime.

Wednesday's 87-85 Pistons victory marked the first time they've faced each other since the incident.

Defense Help Pistons Win Against Celtics

Despite shooting poorly in the first half, only 38%, while the Celtics shot 62%, The Pistons were only down by 7 at half-time. This was due to the Pistons loyal friend defense, which have bailed them out time and time again. In the second half the Pistons turned up both their defense and offense.

Lindsay Hunter was great with 5 points and 3 steals in 11 minutes. Rip Hamilton, who at times was the only one scoring for the Pistons, played great the entire game. He scored 21 points. Chauncey Billups scored 12 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter, reminding the Celtics of why he's "Mr. Bigshot". Rasheed wallace was in foul trouble, but scored 9 points off of 3 3-pointers. Antonio McDyess had a double-double; 13 points and 10 rebounds. Even Tayshaun Prince who struggled, managed to score 4 points in the second half. The Pistons and the Celtics were tied 85-85 in the fourth quarter with seconds left on clock. It looked as if the game was heading into over-time, but "Mr. Bigshot" once again was fouled with seconds left, sending him to the line. He made both Free throws. The Pistons won 87-85.

Primoz Brezec And Walter Herrmann Happy To Be Pistons

Detroit FreePress

Both former Charlotte Bobcats said they were happy to be in Detroit -- limited playing time and blizzard-like conditions aside.

"We're so glad, happy, excited, and hopefully it's not going to be just one year," Brezec said. "We're looking forward to being here for a long period of time. We both talked, and we want to retire as Pistons."

Brezec said he "kind of forced a trade" because he wasn't happy with the way his role was reduced under coach and former Spartan Sam Vincent. For his first two seasons in Charlotte, Brezec was a main offensive option, using his outside shooting to work pick-and-pop situations.

But his minutes and production fell off last season, with some blaming an extensive summer with his national team in Slovenia. This season, he missed two weeks of preseason for personal reasons and had fallen further down the pecking order on offense.

Most nights, he played fewer than 10 minutes. In Detroit, Brezec's role won't be much different.

But he sounded more than accepting of that Sunday, when he played seven minutes with three rebounds, two assists and two turnovers.

"The Detroit Pistons is the definition of what team basketball is supposed to be," Brezec said. "Everything they do, they do the right way. From the top to the bottom -- organization, players, how they play on offense, how they play on defense, unselfish, share the ball. There's a world championship here, and that's why me and Walter are here to help this team get back on track."

Pistons Beat Hawks 91-81

The Pistons beat the Hawks, despite Chauncey Billups playing out of character for a stretch. He had 6 turnovers and only 2 assists, but was able to regain control of the game after Flip Saunders made him sit. The Pistons once had a 14 point lead which they blew in the third. In the third quarter The Hawks had 9 fast break points and forced 5 turnovers. The Hawks were then only down by 3. However, Tayshaun Prince made back to back plays pushing the lead up to 7. Then pushed the lead up to 11 when he made a three pointer late in the third. Tayshaun had a double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds. He also had 5 assists. Chauncey Billups did not score in the third quarter, but scored 13 in the fourth. He finished with 23 points. Rip Hamilton had 19 points. Antonio McDyess had 10 points and 3 blocks. Jason Maxiell had 10 points and 8 rebounds, two boards shy of another double-double. Next opponent The Warriors Saturday at 12:30 Noon on FSN.

Nazr Mohammed Traded For Bobcats Walter Herrmann and Primoz Brezec

Joe Dumars traded Nazr Mohammed yesterday for Bobcats 7 footer Primoz Brezec and 6-9 Walter Herrmann. The Bobcats wants Nazr to be a starter alongside Emaka Okafor, so that might turn out to be a good thing for him, since he wasn't getting much playing time with the Pistons. Joe Dumars wanted some big guys who could shoot the ball out on the perimeter like Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess. I don't know anything about Walter Herrmann or Primoz Brezec, but I hope they're good fits. I'm going to miss Nazr. He's such a nice guy. He's a good basketball player and a great teammate.

Ronald Dupree Cut Again

O.k. How many times have Joe Dumars cut Ronald Dupree now? three? four times? I don't know. I actually lost count. Anyways, Joe have once again cut Ronald "Super Dupe" Dupree from the team, for the Bobcats Walter Herrmann (7-1) and Primoz Brezec (6-9). I don't know anything about these guys, and I can barely pronounce one of their names, but I hope they're good fits.

I wish Ronald Dupree the best of luck. I can't imagine him coming back to the Pistons after this, but seeing how he's come back several times before, I wouldn't be surprised if I saw him on the Pistons bench yet again. Anyways, I truly, truly, wish him and Nazr Mohammed the best of luck.

Tired Pistons Lose To Rockets

Not to make any excuses but, playing on a back to back with no rest in the fourth quarter the night before, the Pistons starters were noticeably tired playing against the Rockets. They shot only 27% in the first half and 37% overall, yet surprisingly the game wasn't as boring as it could've been. I think It was because I was being entertained by Rasheed Wallace. For instance, during the first half he picked up a foul, and as he was going to the bench he yelled "All them Motha-F*@#%s are soft" referring to the Rockets. Mind you, Yao Ming had already accused his own team of being soft when they played against another opponent. Anyways, not too long after Rasheed called the Rockets soft, Bonzi Wells Chest Bumped 'em, I guess trying to prove that he's not as "soft as a Twinkie". Luckily for him though, he's no stranger to Sheed. They were once teammates in Portland. As Bonzi Wells missed his Free Throw, Sheed yelled his signiture "Ball Don't Lie" loud enough to raise the dead, making Bonzi smile like a Cheishire cat. It was a crazy game, but strangely entertaining. Pistons 77, Rockets 80.

Chauncey Billups 28 Points And 14 Assists In Pistons Win Against Grizzlies

The Pistons came out attacking early against the Grizzlies Tuesday night, at one point shooting 67%. Wow! In fact they're averaging 100 points per game this season. The Pistons, executing flawlessly led by 15 points at the end of the third quarter. Chauncey Billups was excellent. He had a double-double; 28 Points and 14 assists. Rip Hamilton was excellent as well with 27 points. As a whole the team did an excellent job, even Rasheed Wallace who was suffering from flu-like symptoms, played some superb defense. Jason Maxiell who started in place of Rasheed, was a monster as usual. At one point he dunked on both Darko Milicic and Paul Gasol at the same time. They didn't have an answer for him... It was a good game... The only downside is that they took their foot off the pedal in the second half and allowed the Grizzlies to chop their lead down. For that reason, they were not able to sit and rest during the fourth quarter, which would have been good for them since they're playing the first of a back-to-back. At one point the Pistons led by 24 points. The Pistons 113, Grizzles 103. Their next opponent, the Rockets tonight at 8:00 on FSN and ESPN.

Chauncey Billups Doesn't Play His Best Against The Bulls

I'm not trying to take anything away from the Bulls. They're a pretty good team, but I know the Pistons can definitely play them a lot better than how they've been playing them. For instance, if Chauncey Billups would be as aggressive against the Bulls as he is against other opponents, then the Pistons would probably not have a loosing record against this team. Chauncey himself know that when he's aggressive the Pistons win. So why doesn't he play more assertive and aggressive against the Bulls? Why does he wait till the fourth quarter to play the way he know he should've been playing all along?

Well, I'm not a psychiatrist but here's what I think is going on. I think the Pistons as a whole has not gotten over Ben Wallace yet, and Chauncey Billups is more affected by his departure more than anyone else. Remember, Chauncey had some input in bringing coach Flip Saunders to Detroit, whom Ben had an falling out with. Under Flip Saunders the team was becoming more offense oriented...Ben felt that he wasn't being included in the offense, and the rest is history. Therefore, Chauncey might feel like it's his fault that Ben left. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not saying that Chauncey is deliberately not playing his best so that the Bulls could win, I'm saying that Chauncey evidentially have too much on his mind whenever he plays Ben Wallace and the Bulls.

Anyway, the Pistons lost to the Bulls yet again Friday night and if they can't get over loosing Ben, then they'll just continue to loose against his team. The Playoffs is a different story though, there'll be no distractions then. Hopefully.

37 Year Old Lindsay Hunter Still Got It

I love Lindsay Hunter. He brings son much energy to the team. In fact, the 37 year old has more energy than everyone on the team put together. He's like a spark plug. Just plug 'em in and watch a lifeless Zombie-like team come to life. Thats what happened in last nights game against the Hornets. The Pistons were practically zombies in the first quarter, missing shot after shot. They were down by 15, and then something magical happened. Lindsay Hunter entered the game, and next think I know, I look up and their only down by six. Thanks to huge sparks by Lindsay Hunter and Jason Maxiell, the Pistons, playing on a back-to-back and down by 15 in the first quarter, were able to beat the Hornets by 15 for their 5th straight win. Pistons 91, Hornets 76

Pistons beat Nets 118-95, Making It Their Third Blowout Win Of The Season

The Pistons beat the Nets 118-95 Sunday night, making it their third blowout win of the season. Jason Maxiell, the Pistons 6th man had another double-double, 18 points and 11 rebounds, making it his second double-double of the season. He played great. In the first half he had a monster one hand put back dunk. Rip Hamilton who had been struggling due to injury and illness, finally broke loose scoring 19 points. The Pistons led by 10 points before halftime and led by as many as 29 points in the second half.

Clowning Around:

Before the Game, Jason Maxiell was constantly hit in the back with basketballs thrown by his teammates, as he was being interviewed on the side-line. At one point, he was even simultaneously hit with a barrage of basketballs thrown by Rip, Chauncey, Amir and basically anyone who wanted to join the fun. It started with non-other than, you guessed it, the big silly Rasheed "Rosco" Wallace. Tayshaun Prince, who was watching nearby, saw the whole thing and started cracking up.

Pistons Renewed And Revitalized

It is apparent this year that the Pistons are renewed and revitalized. They're still the Pistons we know, but without the rust and cobwebs. The old Pistons were slow to start and waited till the fourth quarter to attack. Today's Pistons are attacking much faster. You can thank Joe Dumars for that. He has done a great job bringing vigor to the worn out Pistons by adding Jarvis Hayes, and Rookies Rodney Stuckey, Aaron Afflalo and Cheikh Samb to the team. Not to mention Jason Maxiell and Amir Johnson. I'm also glad that he opted to keep Flip Murray who has been excellent, and Nazr Mohammed who is great coming off the bench. Another great move was the Pistons coaching staff changing Rasheed Wallace to Center, and incorporating Antonio McDyess in the starting line-up. Dyess seem to have adjusted to his role very nicely, and quicker than what I had expected.

The Pistons won another blowout game against the Bucks last night 117-91. Next opponent, The Nets at 6:00 on channel 20. GO PISTONS!

Amir Johnson and Cheikh Samb's Block Party Against the Lakers

This Pistons lost this game against the Lakers, but it was a good game for the Rookies Cheikh Samb, Amir Johnson and Aarron Afflalo, and it was fun to watch, so I wasn't too disappointed.
